In the race against skin aging, an increasing number of women want to use more natural methods to slow down the effects of time. No more paralysed features and expressionless faces thank you very much!

Carboxytherapy, laser treatments, the new “No Touch” technique, the latest from the Botulin toxin family and new advice about product usage... Thanks to new progress in anti-aging techniques, frozen-featured beauty is becoming a thing of the past.

Anti-aging for the lips: the “No Touch” technique

No part of the face can withstand the ravages of passing time. And so to re-sculpt the fine lines and wrinkles around lips and lip contour using less invasive techniques – without actually touching the lips – practitioners now have access to the "No Touch" technique.

This gentler method of injection was presented by plastic surgeon Dr Javier Beut during IMCAS 2011*. It involves remodelling lips without actually touching them (injections are no longer applied directly to the labial mucosa so as to reduce the risks of infection and bruising).

 For a more natural result, three points of reference have the honours, explains Dr Beut:

  • Profile: to improve lip profile, the physician injects hyaluronic acid into the white line just above the lip contour. He or she can therefore rectify or ‘re-hem’ the lip contour;
  • Protrusion: during an initial pre-treatment appointment, the physician will look closely at a patient’s smile. It’s important not to use too high a dose of the filler product that would risk opening the mouth too much and revealing the gums. Hyaluronic acid is injected on the bias to reach the bright red part of the lip from the inside (the dry mucosa);
  • Volume: to generally plump up the lips, the physician once again injects hyaluronic acid on the bias from the corners of the mouth into the red (interior) part of the lips.

This new technique means those exaggeratedly plumped up protruding lips à la Meg Ryan will soon a thing of the past.

Anti-aging skin treatment: Lasers and LEDs

While the No Touch technique helps to erase nascent fine lines around the lip contour area, lasers are used to combat skin aging on the entire face.

Benefits include visible and palpable increase in skin tone, thickening of the epidermis, and an excellent ratio between advantages and risks... All factors that explain the rapid increase in fractional laser treatments (which use dermoabrasion in 4 phases) to combat skin aging.

The new laser treatments available have also proven their effectiveness in the fight against the loss of skin tone in particularly fine and wrinkled areas (eye contour, lower face, dark circles around the eyes, and backs of the hands, neck and décolleté).

Treatments are given weekly for 5 to 6 weeks. The latest techniques offer fractional treatment, which can be combined with carboxytherapy sessions to optimise effects (5 to 6 sessions for the face).

However, care should be taken when it comes to LEDs. Despite the keen interest they receive, thus far LEDs have not demonstrated their usefulness in reducing inflammation and promoting the healing process after more aggressive anti-aging procedures such as traditional or fractional laser resurfacing, photodynamic therapy, IPL (Intense Pulse Light) or intensive peelings.
